We hope you enjoy looking at our work and finding out about what we have been doing.
Autumn Term 2026
As we begin the autumn term, our focus will be on helping the children settle into their new environment and become familiar with the routines of school. This term, they will have the opportunity to adjust to their new surroundings, get to know their classmates, and build strong relationships with their teachers.
Throughout the term, the children will explore a variety of exciting topics. They will learn about families and the different types of homes people live in. We'll also focus on emotional well-being, helping the children develop skills to manage their feelings and express themselves confidently.
In addition, the children will discover the changing seasons, specifically autumn and winter, and the ways in which our environment transforms during these times. They'll explore the differences in weather, nature, and how we adapt to these changes.
Finally, we'll embark on a cultural journey, exploring various festivals from around the world. The children will learn about how different communities celebrate these occasions, helping to foster an appreciation for diversity and shared traditions.

Summer Term
During the Summer Term, our Reception children enjoyed an exciting journey of discovery as they explored the world around them. They learned about prehistoric life, including dinosaurs, and investigated a wide range of animals from different habitats, such as sea creatures and minibeasts. One of the highlights of the term was observing the lifecycle of a butterfly, watching caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies—a truly memorable experience. As summer approached, the children also explored seasonal changes, noticing differences in the weather and the natural environment. Throughout the term, they learned about different countries in particular Africa, discussed ways to care for our planet, and expanded their understanding of the fascinating world of space.
Spring Term 2026
This term, our Reception topic has been ‘Our Community’. The children have been learning all about the special people, places and services that make up our local area here on RAF Digby and in the wider city of Lincoln. Throughout the term, they explored what a community is, why it is important and how everyone has a role to play in helping it run smoothly.
We looked closely at different community roles - such as military personnel, shopkeepers, doctors, firefighters, police officers and many more - and learned how each one contributes to keeping us safe, healthy and supported. As part of this learning, we were delighted to welcome a number of visitors into school. These included the military police, who talked to the children about safety and their work on the base and The Little City, where the children took part in role-play experiences linked to real-life jobs.
The children also went on walks around RAF Digby to explore their local area and to observe the changing seasons.
This term, we have been focusing on observational drawing and painting and the children used their observations of spring flowers to create their own artwork.
We also celebrated Pancake Day, enjoying the tradition together and exploring the different ways pancakes can be made and decorated.
For World Book Day, the children shared their favourite books with each other, enjoying stories and talking about why they loved them.
In the Summer Term, our Reception children will set off on an exciting journey to explore the world around them. They will learn about prehistoric creatures, including dinosaurs, and discover animals from a range of diverse habitats, such as sea life and minibeasts.
As summer approaches, the children will observe and discuss seasonal changes, noticing how the weather and environment transform. They will also explore different ways we travel around the world, learn how to care for our planet, and begin to uncover the wonders of space.
Autumn Term 2025
This term, we have explored many exciting things!
We have been strengthening our hands, fingers, and wrists, practising the tri-pod grip and using scissors safely to cut curved lines.
We have been forming the first letter of our names, beginning to write our names and exploring pre-writing patterns like circles and dots.
We also practised our gross motor skills with Bikeability and used our senses to explore materials, including making gingerbread people.
In maths, we have been matching and sorting objects, comparing amounts, sizes, masses and capacities, exploring simple patterns, finding and representing 1, 2, and 3 and discovering what happens when we add one more or take one away.
We have learned about homes from the past and present, animal homes and visited Hope Meadows Equestrian. We explored body parts, went on an Autumn walk to discover textures and shapes and experimented with containers.
We have thought about families, friends and role models, learned about Moses and Jesus, Bonfire Night and why we wear poppies. We noticed how seasons affect daily life, compared Christmas past and present, cared for living things and the environment, explored light and shadows and identified nocturnal animals.
In art, we drew self-portraits and whole bodies, explored colours and textures, mixed primary colours to make secondary colours, made collages and worked together on large-scale group projects. We also moulded clay to make Diva lamps.
